The Boxing Association of Sri lanka (BASL) will conduct the 2026 Under-19 Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships from 14 to 18 July 2026 at the Sri Lanka Boxing Gymnasium, Diyagama. The championship will serve as a key selection event for identifying talented young boxers to represent Sri Lanka at upcoming international Under-19 competitions organized by World Boxing, making it one of the most significant events in the national amateur boxing calendar. The tournament is open to all eligible amateur boxers across the country. Approximately 150 male and female boxers representing more than 50 leading boxing schools are expected to compete. In addition, the 2026 Intermediate Boxing Tournament will be held from 15 to 19 July 2026 at the same venue. This open championship is also open to amateur boxers and is expected to attract nearly 200 competitors representing the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force, Sri Lanka Police, universities, and leading boxing clubs from across the island. Running until 19 July, the two championships are regarded as an important platform for identifying emerging boxing talent and preparing athletes to compete at the international level. They will also provide aspiring boxers with an invaluable opportunity to showcase their abilities and earn selection for future international competitions. Commenting on the significance of the championships, Kusal Gunasekara, Director of Media of the Sri Lanka Boxing Association, stated that these tournaments represent a vital step in strengthening Sri Lanka’s amateur boxing pathway by providing young and emerging athletes with opportunities to progress to the highest levels of international competition.
