Dry weather expected in most parts of Sri Lanka today

A few showers may occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today (18). According to the Department of Meteorology, mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island. Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in the Matale, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Meanwhile, a few showers may occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Matara via Colombo and Galle. Winds will be south-westerly. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai. The sea areas off the coasts extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times.
