The Kandy Municipal Council has announced a planned water supply interruption affecting multiple areas in the district today due to essential electrical maintenance at a key treatment facility.
Residents across numerous areas in Kandy will experience a water supply suspension lasting 12 hours, beginning at 9:00 AM and continuing until 9:00 PM today. According to the Kandy Municipal Council, the interruption has been scheduled to allow urgent electrical maintenance work to be carried out at the Getambe Water Treatment Plant, a facility operated by the council.
The water cutoff will affect a substantial portion of the Kandy district, including the town center and surrounding neighborhoods. Among the impacted areas are Dangolla, Medabowala, Sarasavi Uyana, Getambe, Dodamwela, Aniwatte, Bahirawakanda, Asgiriya, Bogambara, Rajapihilla, Ampitiya, Peiriswatta, Boowelikada, Thalwatta, Lewella, Mulgampola, Katukele, Deyyannewela, Suduhumpola, Heerasagala, and Hanthana. Additionally, certain sections of Gurudeniya and Ampitiya that receive water from the National Water Supply and Drainage Board will also be affected.
The Municipal Commissioner has urged affected residents to prepare for the disruption by storing adequate quantities of water beforehand. The council has characterized the maintenance work as essential, though no details have been provided regarding the specific nature of the electrical issues or expected timeline for completion of the work.
