All Sri Lankan Newspapers and News Sites, In One Place

Last updated: 10 July 2026

Every Sri Lankan newspaper and news site that matters, on one page — in English, Sinhala and Tamil. If you used InfoLanka’s news links in the 2000s, this is that page — kept current, with live aggregated headlines. Below are the national dailies, TV news brands, business press, online-only outlets, state media, and the international desks that cover the island, each with a short note on who owns it and what it is known for. Outlets that KottuRoti aggregates link straight to a live feed, so you can jump from this directory into today’s news itself.

What happened to InfoLanka?

InfoLanka (infolanka.com) was one of the first Sri Lankan sites on the web — a 1990s-era link directory covering everything from recipes to cricket, whose news links page became the default starting point for Lankan news online, especially for readers abroad. The site is no longer actively maintained, and many of the links on it have gone stale. This directory is its modern equivalent: the same idea of every Sri Lankan news source on one page, but reviewed regularly and backed by a live feed that pulls the actual headlines from these outlets every few minutes.

Read all of them in one feed

You do not have to open twenty tabs. KottuRoti aggregates the outlets marked above into one live feed, clusters reports about the same event into a single story, and keeps each story in its original language — so you can read across every source from one page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most read newspaper in Sri Lanka?

Lankadeepa, the Sinhala daily from Wijeya Newspapers, is generally regarded as the highest-circulation newspaper in Sri Lanka. Among English papers, Daily Mirror is widely regarded as the leading daily, while online the Ada Derana and Hiru News sites are among the most visited news destinations on the island.

What happened to InfoLanka?

InfoLanka was one of the earliest Sri Lankan websites — a 1990s link directory whose news links page was how a generation of readers, especially in the diaspora, found Lankan news online. The site is no longer actively maintained and many of its links have gone stale. This page serves the same purpose today: a single, kept-current list of Sri Lankan news sources, with live aggregated headlines one click away.

Which Sri Lankan newspapers are in English?

The main English dailies are Daily Mirror, The Island, Daily News and The Morning, with the Sunday Times and Sunday Observer at weekends. Daily FT and EconomyNext cover business and the economy, while Ada Derana and NewsFirst publish English news online around the clock.

Is there one independent Sri Lankan news source I can trust?

No single outlet gives the full picture. Every outlet has an editorial perspective, and several of the largest are owned by the state or by large media groups. The practical answer is to read the same story across several outlets — which is exactly what KottuRoti automates: it clusters reports from many sources into one story per event, so you can see where the accounts agree and where they differ.

Where can I read Sri Lankan news in Tamil?

Virakesari is the longest-established Tamil daily, and Uthayan covers the north from Jaffna. Online, Tamilwin, Lankasri, Tamil Mirror and IBC Tamil are widely read, including across the diaspora. KottuRoti gathers Tamil headlines from these outlets into one live feed at kotturoti.app/tamil-news.

Does BBC cover Sri Lanka today?

Yes. The BBC publishes Sri Lanka coverage in three languages: BBC Sinhala at bbc.com/sinhala, BBC Tamil at bbc.com/tamil, and English reporting through BBC News Asia. Major island stories are also covered by Reuters and Al Jazeera.

Are Sri Lankan newspapers free to read online?

Almost all Sri Lankan news sites are free to read and supported by advertising; paywalls are rare. Some papers also sell paid e-paper (print replica) editions. KottuRoti's aggregated feed is free too, with the latest headlines from every outlet on one page.
