In the Medawachchiya area, a Sri Lanka Transport Board bus struck the rear of a lorry carrying roof tiles that had been positioned at the roadside. According to police investigations, the lorry had stopped due to mechanical difficulties when the bus driver lost control and collided with the vehicle. The impact left 13 people injured, who were subsequently transported to medical facilities in Medawachchiya and Vavuniya for treatment.
Separately, a tragic collision occurred in the early morning hours along the Bakamuna-Dambulla road in the Damaniya area. A luxury passenger bus struck a motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of two individuals identified as a 63-year-old mother and her 43-year-old son. Following the incident, police apprehended the driver of the luxury bus in connection with the fatality.
Authorities have launched investigations into both accidents to determine the precise circumstances and contributing factors. The incidents underscore ongoing road safety concerns across the island.
