A discussion between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the coconut and food products manufacturing industry regarding building the coconut and food products export sector into a $03 billion economy within the next two years was held at the Presidential Secretariat this Friday afternoon.

Accordingly, it is expected to build the coconut-based export sector to $02 billion and the food products export sector to $01 billion, and the relevant plans were discussed in detail here.

The President stated that he expects to provide any support that the government needs to promote export diversification and value-added products.

Recommendations and ideas for building these industries were submitted here, and the President further stated that future plans will be prepared taking all those recommendations and ideas into consideration.

The President also agreed that incentives will be provided for starting industries in the North and that the government will provide maximum support for the establishment of industries related to coconut-based products there.

Attention was also paid to plans to protect domestic manufacturers and regulate the import of raw materials required for export products.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake further stated that his government's expectation is to build domestic supply chains and build the country's economy as an export-based manufacturing economy.

Minister of Industry and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Anil Jayantha Fernando, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary to the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Thilaka Jayasundara, Chairman of the Export Development Board Mangala Wijesinghe, President of the Sri Lanka Food Processing Association Aruna Senanayake, Vice President Rasika Seneviratne, Managing Director of Ceylon Biscuit Company (CBL) Shyamali Wickramasinghe, Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lankan Catering Limited Mangala Wijesekera, Managing Director of Ma’s Tropical Food Processing (Pvt) Ltd Mario De Alvis, Head of Consumer Food Division of John Keells Food Holding PLC Thaminda Kamlath and many other leading industry figures in the food processing sector participated in the seminar.
