Police in the Madampe division have arrested a young man accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl who was living in the same household.
A 20-year-old resident of Hiruwalpola in Bingiriya has been arrested following allegations that he sexually abused a 13-year-old girl on multiple occasions. The arrest came after the girl's mother, who had been living overseas, returned to Sri Lanka on August 1 and reported the matter to Madampe Police.
According to the complaint, the alleged abuse occurred while the victim was living with her grandmother, aunt, and siblings at a shared residence. The suspect, who was also residing in the same household, is accused of assaulting the girl when other occupants were absent. The girl disclosed the alleged incidents to her mother shortly after her return to the country.
Following the report, police initiated an investigation and took the suspect into custody. The victim has been referred to the Judicial Medical Officer at Chilaw General Hospital for medical examination. The arrested individual is expected to appear before the Chilaw Magistrate's Court, while Madampe Police continue their inquiries into the matter.
