The Government has officially released the 'Avurudu Nekath Seettuwa,' a schedule of auspicious times designated for the 2027 Sinhala and Tamil New Year observances. According to the schedule issued by the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, both the Sinhala and Tamil New Year will commence on Wednesday, April 14, 2027.
The new year is traditionally marked at 3:29 p.m. on that date, according to the official schedule. The 'Avurudu Nekath Seettuwa' serves as a cultural and religious guide for communities observing the annual new year celebrations, providing prescribed times for various rituals and activities during the festivities.
The release of the auspicious times schedule is part of the Government's efforts to preserve and promote traditional cultural practices associated with the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, one of the island's most significant annual observances celebrated across multiple communities.
