Sri Lanka's Ministry of Education has released the official school term schedule for 2027, outlining three academic terms for Sinhala and Tamil-medium schools alongside key examination dates.

The Ministry of Education has published the academic calendar for 2027, establishing a three-term structure for most schools across the island. According to the notification, Sinhala and Tamil-medium institutions will operate on aligned schedules throughout the year, with the first term commencing on January 4 and concluding on April 9, 2027.

The second term will span from April 26 to July 30, 2027, providing a relatively brief recess between the first and second academic periods. The third and final term is scheduled to run from August 30 through December 3, 2027, completing the academic year before the year-end holidays.

Muslim schools will follow a modified calendar, with their first and second terms organized across several phases to accommodate religious observances and community needs. The schedule represents a structured approach to managing the academic year while allowing flexibility for different school communities.

National examinations have been strategically timed within the academic calendar. The G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination is slated for August 2027, while the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination will take place in December 2027, allowing students adequate preparation time following the conclusion of their respective terms.
