Authorities have issued prohibition orders to 24 drivers in Wellawaya and Uva Kuda Oya after discovering safety violations and unauthorized vehicle modifications during a joint inspection operation.
Police and vehicle inspection officials conducted a targeted safety operation in the Wellawaya and Uva Kuda Oya areas, examining vehicles for mechanical defects and unauthorized modifications that could compromise road safety. The joint effort between local police stations and Motor Vehicle Inspection Officers identified 24 vehicles operating with various safety concerns.
Drivers of the flagged vehicles have been issued prohibition orders preventing further operation until repairs are completed. Authorities have provided a 14-day window for owners to address the identified defects and remove any unauthorized modifications from their vehicles.
Officials indicated that such inspection operations will be conducted regularly as part of a broader strategy to enhance road safety standards and ensure compliance with legal requirements for vehicles on public roads.
