A 31-year-old Palestinian woman was killed when a paramotor aircraft crashed into the sea near Bentota on Wednesday evening, while the Colombian pilot operating the vessel survived the incident.
A recreational paramotor flight ended in tragedy off the coast of Bentota on Wednesday when the powered parachute descended into the sea, resulting in the death of a 31-year-old Palestinian passenger. The aircraft was being operated by a private commercial establishment offering paramotor rides along the beach road in the area.
According to the Bentota Police Division, the pilot of the paramotor, a Colombian national, survived the crash without reported injury. The victim's body was subsequently transported to Nagoda Hospital, where it has been placed in the mortuary pending further procedures.
Bentota Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities are examining details of the flight operation, the paramotor aircraft itself, and the conditions at the time of the incident to determine the cause of the crash.
