Four motorcyclists and one pedestrian died in separate traffic incidents reported on July 28, with police investigations ongoing into each case.

Five people lost their lives in unrelated road accidents across Sri Lanka on July 28, according to police reports. Four of the fatalities involved motorcyclists, while one victim was a pedestrian struck while crossing a major road.

In Hurigaswewa, a 59-year-old motorcyclist died after his vehicle went out of control when he attempted to swerve around a dog on the roadway. Separately, in Godakawela, a 21-year-old rider was killed when his motorcycle left the road surface and flipped over; a passenger travelling with him sustained injuries in the incident.

A 67-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a motorcycle on the Kandy–Kurunegala road in Mawatagama. Both the motorcycle rider and pillion passenger involved in that collision were injured. In Mahawa, a 65-year-old motorcyclist died following a collision between his motorcycle and a car that had entered the main thoroughfare from an adjacent side road. The driver of the car was taken into custody by authorities.

Police indicated that formal investigations have been initiated into all four fatal motorcycle-related accidents to determine the precise circumstances surrounding each incident.
