The Department of Meteorology has forecasted a rise in precipitation across the southwestern regions of Sri Lanka beginning today, with scattered showers expected in multiple provinces.

The Department of Meteorology issued a weather forecast on July 28 indicating that the southwestern portion of the island will experience elevated rainfall levels over the coming days. The forecast, released at 5:30 a.m., suggests that the increased precipitation will commence immediately.

Scattered showers are anticipated across several areas. The Sabaragamuwa province, along with Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, will see intermittent showers, while the Western and North-western provinces, as well as Galle and Matara districts, are expected to receive multiple rounds of shower activity. By contrast, other regions of the island are forecast to remain dry.

In addition to rainfall concerns, the meteorological department warned of significant wind activity. Strong winds ranging from 40 to 50 kilometers per hour are expected to develop periodically across the western slopes of the Central hills, the Northern and North-central provinces, and in Hambantota, Trincomalee, and Puttalam districts. Residents in these areas should remain alert to changing weather conditions over the forecasted period.
