According to reports published by Mawbima newspaper, Fonseka stated that he has maintained cultivation rights on the property since 1994 and made only routine adjustments necessary for agricultural purposes.
Regarding the well construction allegation, Fonseka clarified that he dug only a small water collection pit for irrigation rather than the larger structure suggested in initial reports. He indicated plans to add a concrete step to the well to prevent animals from entering. He also addressed accusations of tree-felling by asserting that only minor branches were trimmed rather than extensive clearing.
Fonseka further disputed the manner of his apprehension, stating he was not taken into custody in handcuffs as had been reported. He described the current situation as his first significant confrontation of this nature, suggesting the dispute represents an unusual occurrence in his activities at the property.
