Sri Lanka's Prime Minister met with an Omani delegation to discuss strengthening bilateral trade and investment relations, with Oman expressing interest in funding selected projects and establishing a formal business council.
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya held discussions with Pankaj Khimji, Advisor for Foreign Trade and International Cooperation at Oman's Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, and his accompanying delegation at Temple Trees on Thursday. The meeting centered on enhancing commercial ties between the two nations and identifying fresh investment opportunities available in Sri Lanka's current business environment.
During the talks, the Omani delegation signaled its willingness to fund specific development projects within Sri Lanka while evaluating broader investment prospects. The Prime Minister responded positively to these overtures, encouraging Omani investors to examine the range of opportunities present in the country and welcoming closer coordination between the private sectors of both nations.
Both delegations emphasized the need to explore new avenues for trade and investment collaboration. A notable proposal emerged from the Omani side to establish a Sri Lanka–Oman Business Council, intended to serve as a structured mechanism for private-sector engagement and facilitate direct business-to-business interactions. The discussions also reflected a mutual commitment to deepening existing trade relations and creating conditions for enhanced commercial activity between the countries.
The meeting included participation from Ahmed Al-Rashdi, Ambassador of Oman; Moosa Al Kharusi, Projects Division Director; and representatives from Sri Lanka's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Employment, alongside Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister Ms. Sagarika Bogahawatta.
