Sri Lanka's Meteorology Department has issued an amber-level weather advisory for heavy rains expected across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces through early tomorrow morning.

The Department of Meteorology released an amber advisory on August 1st covering heavy rainfall in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, along with the districts of Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara. The advisory remains active until 6:00 a.m. on August 2nd.

According to the meteorological authority, the active Southwest monsoon continues to drive rainy and windy conditions across the southwestern portions of the island. Intermittent showers are anticipated throughout the affected regions during the advisory period.

The department warned that certain areas may experience heavy rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters. Residents in the affected zones have been advised to remain cautious and prepared for potentially significant precipitation and associated weather impacts.
