Sri Lanka's Department of Meteorology has warned of heavy rainfall across multiple districts due to an active Southwest monsoon, with an amber-level advisory in effect until tomorrow morning.
The Department of Meteorology has issued an amber-level weather advisory for heavy rains affecting the Sabaragamuwa province and several districts including Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara. The alert, announced on Tuesday, will remain in effect until 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The advisory comes as the active Southwest monsoon continues to bring rainy and windy conditions to the southwestern parts of the island. The meteorological department expects these prevailing conditions to persist over the next 24 hours from the time of the alert's issuance.
According to the advisory, some areas within Sabaragamuwa province and the affected districts are expected to receive rainfall exceeding 100 millimetres. Residents in these regions have been warned to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during the weather alert period.
