The three have been found guilty of four charges in the case filed against Member of Parliament Chaminda Wijesiri and three others at the Badulla High Court. Heated argument On or about February 10, 2019, Member of Parliament Chaminda Wijesiri and a group of people were traveling in jeeps near the Bandarawela city roundabout. During the investigation, it was revealed that a heated argument broke out between the two parties when a police jeep passed their vehicle. It is learnt that Chaminda Wijesiri and his group, angered by the police jeep that overtook the vehicle they were traveling in, blocked the path of the police vehicle. It is also learnt that the defendants attacked and injured the officers in the police jeep and threatened to kill them. Thereafter, a case was filed against three people including Chaminda Wijesiri at the Badulla High Court on charges of unlawfully obstructing, assaulting and causing injury, threatening to kill and causing injury to two police officers on duty. Guilty on four charges At the end of the investigation, Chaminda Wijesiri and his driver Bandula Ratnayake were found guilty on four charges. At the same time, the court has found Rasika Karunathilaka, a police officer working in the Ministers' Security Unit, guilty on three charges. The court has been informed that one of the defendants in the case, Chaminda Wijesiri's driver Bandula Ratnayake, has now passed away. After the verdict was announced at the conclusion of the trial, Judge Jayaram Trotsky ordered that further proceedings in the case, including sentencing, be adjourned until July 28th.
