Amazon's market capitalization exceeded $3 trillion for the first time, driven by robust cloud computing growth and investor confidence in its artificial intelligence investments.

Amazon reached a historic $3 trillion market valuation on Monday, becoming only the fifth company to achieve this milestone. The achievement follows a significant stock rally powered by strong quarterly earnings and renewed investor confidence in the company's cloud division, which reported its fastest growth in over four years. Shares climbed 5.5 percent to reach a record high of $286.20, with yearly gains now exceeding 23 percent.

The Seattle-based technology conglomerate's cloud services segment, a primary driver of profitability, has attracted particular investor attention as artificial intelligence demand surges across industries. Amazon raised its annual capital spending forecast, signaling confidence in continued expansion of its AI infrastructure. The company has committed substantial resources to artificial intelligence development, including announcements of up to $50 billion in combined investments to OpenAI and a separate investment in Anthropic disclosed in April.

Amazon and Microsoft stand out among major technology companies for successfully converting massive AI spending into investor gains. In contrast, competitors including Tesla, Alphabet, and Meta faced market pressure after their significant spending commitments impacted free cash flow in recent quarters. The company took just over two years to add another trillion dollars to its valuation following its $2 trillion milestone achieved in June 2024.

Amazon now joins Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Nvidia as the only companies to reach $3 trillion market value. Nvidia currently holds the distinction of being the world's largest company by market capitalization at approximately $5 trillion.
