The Sri Lankan government has welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the United States and Iran, which will establish an immediate ceasefire. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka said in a statement that the agreement is a significant step towards reducing tensions regionally and globally. The ministry noted that the ceasefire agreement provides an excellent framework for continuing diplomatic negotiations between the two countries and includes the means to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important shipping lanes. Assistance from international partners Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has reiterated its commitment to peacefully resolving international issues through dialogue and diplomacy, and expressed its hope that the agreement will contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region.
