Certificates and prizes awarded for the competitions held among schools in the Trincomalee Education Zone on the occasion of Official Languages Day and Week

The Ministry of Justice and National Integration and the Trincomalee District Secretariat organized a certificate and prize distribution event for the winners of the competitions held among schools in the Trincomalee Education Zone on the occasion of Official Languages Day and Official Languages Week today (12) at the Trincomalee District Secretariat Main Conference Hall under the patronage of the District Government Agent W.G.M. Hemantha Kumara.

The Chairman of the District Coordination Committee and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Employment, Arun Hemachandra, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The Deputy Minister said that language is a medium of communication and that our country has faced many problems through language in the past and that the Ministry of Justice and National Integration was established to find solutions to them.

It is the responsibility of all citizens to learn the Tamil and Sinhala languages used in our country. This will reduce the problems that arise while working in society, he added.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of National Integration, Official Languages, Social Development and Hindu Religious Affairs has declared a five-day period from July 1 to July 5 as Official Languages Day and Official Languages Week every year since 2019.

The event was attended by District Additional Chief Minister S. Sudhakaran, District Coordinator National Integration Development Officer Mumtazrin, school teachers, youth and many others.
