Introducing advanced new services in government hospitals Get Minnal24 news on WhatsApp Join to get news instantly 💬 Join The Ministry of Health and Mass Media is moving forward with the establishment of four new cardiac catheterization laboratory (Cath Lab) units in state hospitals within the next week. This aims to expand access to heart disease treatment and reduce waiting lists. The project is being implemented under the instructions of the Minister of Health and Mass Media, Nalinda Jayatissa. Accordingly, one Cath Lab will be established at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital on June 27. Another will be established at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila on June 30. Two more units will be established at the Colombo National Hospital on July 2. Each Cath Lab unit is valued at approximately Rs. 300 million. The total investment is Rs. 1.2 billion. The project is part of the government’s modernization drive to provide advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities for heart and blood vessel diseases. The new Cath Labs are equipped with Canon Alphenix Core+ Evolve Edition systems. They are equipped with advanced imaging and artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This technology is said to provide safe, rapid and minimally invasive treatments and reduce the need for open heart surgery. It is also expected to reduce the time of complex cardiac procedures, improve the Cath Lab workflow and improve clinical decision-making by displaying multiple medical images on a single screen. These new Cath Lab units are said to reduce waiting times for the diagnosis and treatment of heart and blood vessel diseases, and provide patients with faster, more accurate and efficient treatment.
