A man was taken into custody on Sunday afternoon after being discovered on the grounds of Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, during a presidential visit for a Republican party fundraising dinner. Jeanine John Taele, 38, was arrested following reports from federal agents who flagged suspicious activity to local police. According to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, Taele was observed walking through the golf course while photographing and recording security operations.
When confronted by authorities, officers discovered Taele was carrying a 16-round magazine with hollow-point ammunition on his person. A search of his vehicle, parked at the golf course, revealed a loaded pistol and an additional loaded magazine with hollow-point ammunition. California law limits magazines to a maximum of 10 rounds. Taele was also wanted in connection with a robbery investigation by the El Segundo Police Department, located approximately 15 miles north of the golf course.
On Monday, investigators from the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force and the LA County Sheriff's Department conducted a search of Taele's home in Downey. Officers recovered an illegally modified AR platform rifle, a .45 pistol, body armour, high-capacity magazines, ammunition supplies, and multiple notebooks containing what authorities described as concerning statements. The sheriff's department cited potential security implications as justification for the search.
Taele faces charges of carrying a concealed firearm and possessing prohibited ammunition. Officials have not identified any credible threat to the community, nor has Taele been charged with any crimes related to targeting the president. Authorities noted they have not established whether the suspect intended to harm Trump. The investigation continues with assistance from the US Secret Service, and additional charges may be filed.
