Japanese dye manufacturer Asahi Dyes and Chemicals has opened a new plant at the Biyagama Export Processing Zone, creating 281 jobs and incorporating sustainable building practices.

Asahi Dyes and Chemicals Sri Lanka has begun operations at its newly constructed facility in the Biyagama Export Processing Zone, representing a significant capital investment in the country's manufacturing sector. The project, valued at $20.4 million, is expected to generate 281 direct employment opportunities for local workers.

The facility combines manufacturing expertise from Japan with technological innovation from Italy through Tonello, according to the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI). The plant has been built to LEED v4 green building standards, demonstrating a commitment to environmentally sustainable industrial practices.

The BOI has characterized the investment as evidence of Sri Lanka's strengthening position as an attractive destination for high-value, sustainable manufacturing operations. The project is presented as a reflection of investor confidence in the country's industrial development prospects.
