A shooting incident in Athurugiriya has left a hotel owner injured, with preliminary police investigations suggesting involvement of rival drug trafficking groups.
A hotel owner sustained injuries in a shooting incident that took place in the Habarakada-Mullegama area of Athurugiriya on 17 January. The victim was subsequently transported to Homagama Base Hospital for medical treatment. According to initial reports, the injured individual is related to a person known as "Dubai Kasun," who is alleged to be associated with an organized criminal gang.
Police investigations into the incident have pointed toward a possible connection to territorial disputes between competing drug trafficking organizations. Two assailants arrived at the scene on a motorcycle and discharged firearms before departing hastily. Witnesses in the vicinity reported hearing approximately three gunshots during the attack.
The Athurugiriya Police division continues to investigate the circumstances of the shooting and is pursuing leads to establish the full details of the incident. Authorities are working to determine the motives behind the attack and identify the individuals responsible.
