Police have frozen two properties worth over Rs. 130 million in the Embilipitiya area, believed to have been purchased using proceeds from illegal drug trafficking. The freeze order was issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act following an investigation launched on a complaint from local police.

Sri Lanka's Illegal Assets Investigation Division has issued orders freezing two residential properties in Embilipitiya totalling more than Rs. 130 million, which authorities suspect were purchased using money derived from illegal narcotics trafficking. The investigation was initiated following a complaint lodged by the Embilipitiya Senior Superintendent of Police and is being conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The first property, located in Kawantissapura in Embilipitiya, comprises approximately one acre and two roods of land with a two-storey house valued at around Rs. 70 million. The second property, situated in the New Town area of Embilipitiya (referred to as Bimbaduyaya or Bimmbadugoda in reports), contains a plot of 23.7 perches with a two-storey house valued at approximately Rs. 60 million. Both properties are linked to two suspects.

The Illegal Assets Investigation Division has restricted transactions on the frozen properties for a 14-day period beginning September 7, 2026. Police confirmed that further investigations into the assets remain underway.
