Nirmala Prasanga, known as 'Backhoe Saman' and held at Welisara High-Security Prison, has reportedly refused to attend final rites for his mother, who was killed in August.

Nirmala Prasanga, a prominent underworld figure commonly referred to as 'Backhoe Saman', has declined to pay his final respects to his deceased mother while in custody at Welisara High-Security Prison, according to prison sources. The reasons behind his decision remain unclear at this time.

Prasanga's mother was shot and killed by an unidentified assailant in Middeniya on August 12, 2026. Police have indicated that they suspect the murder was orchestrated by another underworld figure known as 'Karandeniya Sudda', with investigators believing it may have been carried out in retaliation for the death of 'Ganemulla Sanjeewa'.

According to police sources, Prasanga's mother had previously received threats from 'Karandeniya Sudda' warning her not to visit her son in prison. Despite these warnings, she continued making regular visits to see her imprisoned son, a pattern that authorities believe may have contributed to her becoming a target.
