The long-running renovation project at Bambalapitiya Railway Station is nearing completion, with work spanning multiple infrastructure upgrades across the facility.
The Bambalapitiya Railway Station renovation project has progressed to its final stage, according to government authorities overseeing the initiative. The Ministry of Transport and Urban Development has directed the undertaking as a collaborative effort between public and private entities, with financial support drawn from community contributions in the area.
The comprehensive renovation programme has addressed numerous structural and functional components of the station. Work has encompassed restoration of the main terminal building, upgrades to sanitary facilities, roof repairs, platform improvements, reinforcement of protective parapet walls, and construction of a new flyover spanning Marine Drive. These improvements collectively represent an investment of Rs. 55 million in the aging transport infrastructure.
The project's completion marks a significant modernisation effort for the commuter railway facility, which serves the Colombo suburban area. With the work entering its concluding phase, commuters and the local community anticipate the resumption of fully upgraded services at the station.
