Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has announced the launch of commodity options trading on gold and silver through its Abu Dhabi-regulated platform, extending its traditional finance offerings beyond existing perpetual futures products.

Binance has introduced European-style commodity options for gold and silver, settling trades in USDT through its Abu Dhabi Global Market-regulated Nest Exchange Limited. The new product builds on the platform's existing commodity perpetuals, which saw strong uptake since their introduction earlier this year, according to the exchange.

The offering allows users to access both commodity perpetuals and options using the same USDT balance and Binance account, streamlining the trading experience across multiple asset classes. Shunyet Jan, Head of Exchange and Trading at Binance, attributed the expansion to sustained investor interest in commodities as inflation hedges, particularly as gold prices reached record levels.

The platform has implemented differentiated access structures based on user type. Retail traders can only purchase options, with losses limited to the premium paid and no liquidation risk from short positions. Institutional users and liquidity providers gain broader capabilities, including the ability to write options and implement advanced portfolio strategies. Trading hours run from Sunday 6:00 PM ET to Friday 5:00 PM ET, with daily maintenance breaks from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM ET.

Compliance features include know-your-customer and know-your-business requirements, market surveillance, and sanctions screening, reflecting Binance's regulated operations under ADGM oversight. The launch represents the latest step in the broader convergence between cryptocurrency platforms and traditional finance infrastructure, expanding retail and institutional access to commodity derivatives within a single regulated ecosystem.
