A man has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over an alleged fraud involving the illegal registration of two vehicles that were imported into Sri Lanka without customs clearance. According to CIABOC, the suspect is accused of assisting in the fraudulent registration of the two vehicles by allegedly working with officials at the Department of Motor Traffic to enter the vehicles into the department’s computer system. Investigators allege the vehicles had been imported without paying customs duties or obtaining customs clearance. The suspect is accused of facilitating the issuance of registration certificates through an illegal transfer process. The suspect, a resident of Pitipana in Homagama, was arrested this morning. He was produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court, where the Magistrate ordered that he be remanded until July 10. (Newswire)
