An 18-year-old of Sri Lankan descent has died after encountering trouble in the sea at Camber Sands beach in East Sussex on Sunday evening, while two others who were with him were rescued safely.
Emergency services were called to Camber Sands beach in East Sussex just before 7:00 pm on Sunday after three people began experiencing difficulties in the water. According to Sussex Police, rescue teams including the coastguard, lifeboat service, and ambulance personnel responded to the incident.
The 18-year-old victim was pulled from the sea approximately 30 minutes after the emergency call was placed. Despite resuscitation efforts by paramedics at the scene, he was pronounced dead shortly after being brought to shore. Sussex Police initially reported the victim's age as 24 before later correcting it to 18. The teenager's next of kin have been notified of his death.
Two other individuals who were present at the beach were rescued without serious injury. A 16-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man, who were known to the deceased, managed to return to shore safely. All three had travelled to the beach from London together.
Sussex Police confirmed that inquiries into the incident remain ongoing, though the force stated there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. The matter will be referred to a coroner for examination. An increased emergency presence has been maintained in the area as the investigation continues.
