Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD, operating through authorized distributor John Keells CG Auto, has opened its ninth showroom in Batticaloa in partnership with Harry Traders, marking further expansion into Sri Lanka's Eastern Province.
BYD, the world's leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles, has established a new showroom at 556 D Trinco Road in Batticaloa as part of its ongoing expansion strategy across Sri Lanka. Operated jointly with Harry Traders, the facility joins existing BYD locations in Colombo, Galle, Kurunegala, Kandy, Ampara, and Rathnapura. The showroom will initially display BYD's vehicle lineup, including the SEALION 5, SEALION 6, SEALION 8, ATTO 1, ATTO 2, and DOLPHIN models, with service and spare parts facilities planned for future implementation.
According to John Keells CG Auto Chief Executive Officer Charith Panditharatne, the expansion demonstrates the company's commitment to making electric vehicles accessible across all regions of the island. Harry Traders CEO Thavabalan Harry Prathab emphasized the Eastern Province's demand for quality and innovation, positioning BYD as a solution to changing consumer preferences in vehicle ownership.
The showroom opening comes as part of a broader infrastructure development initiative. BYD and John Keells CG Auto have deployed 46 fast chargers nationwide and established a partnership with GreenEV to access an additional 83 chargers, creating a network of 129 public charging stations spanning all nine provinces. All BYD customers receive a home charger as standard, facilitating the transition to electric vehicle ownership. With this latest showroom, BYD now maintains retail and service presence across the Western, Southern, Central, North Western, and Eastern provinces.
