The Consumer Affairs Authority has seized nearly 8,500 bottles of drinking water bearing fake SLS certification marks during a raid in Avissawella, preventing the products from reaching consumers.
The Consumer Affairs Authority conducted a special operation in Avissawella that resulted in the confiscation of approximately 8,500 bottles of drinking water displaying counterfeit Sri Lanka Standards certification marks. According to preliminary findings, the water had been manufactured at a facility in Amithirigala, Ruwanwella and subsequently stored at a warehouse in Avissawella.
Investigators discovered that the bottled water came in multiple sizes but had been falsely branded with SLS certification marks and listed certificate number 894. The operation prevented distribution of the stock, as the products had not yet entered the market at the time of the raid.
Authorities sealed and impounded the entire batch during the operation. The Consumer Affairs Authority indicated that criminal proceedings will be initiated against those responsible once the ongoing investigation concludes.
