The Cabinet has approved the appointment of A.L.K. Wijemannage as the new Director General of the Department of Meteorology with immediate effect. The appointment was approved following a proposal presented by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Minister of Defence. Wijemannage currently serves as the Additional Director General of the Department of Meteorology and is the senior-most Special Grade officer of the Sri Lanka Scientific Service attached to the department. The post of Director General had remained vacant prior to the appointment. (Newswire)
