The Cabinet has approved a proposal to begin the procurement of 535 utility vehicles to address shortages that have hampered the implementation of government development projects and field operations. The proposal, presented by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, seeks to strengthen the operational capacity of government institutions engaged in development activities. The approved procurement includes 175 tractors, 100 water bowsers, 100 backhoe loaders and 160 tipper trucks. It was noted that the lack of utility vehicles in relevant institutions has become a major obstacle to carrying out development projects efficiently and effectively. (Newswire)
