The government has approved a major infrastructure development to construct connecting roads linking the Central Expressway with existing highways across three provinces over the next four years.
The Cabinet of Ministers has endorsed a significant infrastructure proposal to establish link roads that will connect three sections of the Central Expressway to the existing road network in the Western, Central, and North Western provinces. The initiative aims to enhance regional connectivity, improve accessibility, and reduce traffic congestion by integrating the expressway more effectively into the broader national highway system.
The project, which will be implemented between 2026 and 2030, encompasses three distinct sections with substantial road construction requirements. Section I will include 12 link roads totaling 117.68 kilometres, while Section III involves 14 link roads covering 83.98 kilometres. Section IV will feature 9 link roads extending 81.36 kilometres in combined length.
The Minister of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development presented the proposal to Cabinet, where it received formal approval. The total estimated cost for the comprehensive project has been set at Rs. 104.9 billion. Government officials have indicated that upon completion, the link road network will facilitate smoother transportation of both goods and passengers while easing pressure on congested existing routes across the three provinces.
