Police Special Task Force officers raided an illegal cannabis cultivation site in Thanamalwila, destroying plants valued at over Rs. 2 million following a tip-off from Army Intelligence.

The Police Special Task Task Force (STF) stationed at Buttala conducted a raid on an illegal cannabis plantation in the Thanamalwila area, acting on intelligence provided by the Army Intelligence Unit. Officers discovered an extensive cultivation operation containing cannabis plants at various stages of growth, with authorities estimating the total value of the seized crops to exceed Rs. 2 million.

All plants found at the site were destroyed by fire during the operation. Those responsible for maintaining the plantation reportedly vacated the area before authorities could apprehend them, leaving no suspects in custody at the time of the raid.

The Buttala STF Camp has since launched a follow-up investigation into the operation, which is expected to focus on identifying the individuals involved and establishing the source and distribution networks connected to the plantation.
