A 29-member delegation from Sri Lanka's gem and jewellery industry has finished a three-week capacity-building course at an Indian institute, part of a bilateral commitment to provide annual training opportunities.
Twenty-nine professionals representing Sri Lanka's gem and jewellery sector have concluded a specialised training programme conducted at the Indian Institute of Gem & Jewellery in Jaipur, Rajasthan, between July 6 and 23, 2026. According to the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka, the initiative forms part of a broader commitment by India to offer 700 annual training slots for Sri Lankan professionals, a pledge made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his April 2025 visit to the island nation.
The 18-day curriculum provided participants with comprehensive instruction spanning the entire gem and jewellery production chain. Training modules encompassed practical techniques, editing processes, and the creation of 3D print-ready design outputs. The programme integrated both classroom instruction and practical exposure, with participants visiting established manufacturing facilities including Valentine Silver International in Jaipur to observe modern production methods, design innovation, and retail operations firsthand.
Indian officials characterised the programme as a success in enhancing professional capabilities and facilitating knowledge sharing between the two countries. They emphasised that the initiative reflects a shared commitment to capacity development and people-focused economic collaboration. The training is positioned as part of strengthening institutional and industry connections across the bilateral relationship.
