A vehicle traveling on Sri Lanka's Southern Expressway collided with a safety fence near the 32nd kilometer post in Dodangoda on the morning of September 7, with a passenger sustaining minor injuries.

A luxury car veered off the Southern Expressway and struck the central safety fence early on September 7, in an incident that occurred near the 32.4-kilometre post in Dodangoda. According to police reports, the vehicle was traveling from Bandaranaike International Airport toward Matara when the collision took place.

One source attributed the accident to driver fatigue, reporting that the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel around 5:30 am, causing the vehicle to lose control. However, a second account indicated that the car first collided with barricades that had been positioned along the expressway for road maintenance work, which then caused the vehicle to veer into the central safety fence.

A woman traveling in the vehicle sustained minor injuries in the incident. Police records indicate that the collision caused substantial damage to both the central safety fence and the maintenance barricades, as well as extensive damage to the luxury car itself. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, with further details to be released as inquiries progress.
