The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry have renewed their bilateral agreement aimed at strengthening commercial ties between Sri Lanka and India's Gujarat region. The renewed memorandum of understanding was signed during a business delegation visit to Colombo, marking renewed commitment to identifying specific trade and investment opportunities for companies in both markets.
The visiting delegation represented a diverse range of industries spanning textiles and apparel, garment accessories, manufacturing, gems and jewellery, waste management, information technology, and processed food products. Discussions centred on connecting Gujarat-based textile suppliers with Sri Lankan apparel manufacturers, while accessory producers explored potential supply and distribution partnerships. The delegation also expressed interest in sourcing Sri Lankan sapphires and gemstones, with plans to establish connections with local jewellery manufacturers and women entrepreneurs in the sector.
Beyond traditional trade, the discussions extended to emerging sectors including waste-to-energy solutions and digital technologies. Both chambers committed to facilitating ongoing business-to-business connections, sharing market intelligence, and supporting companies from either region seeking opportunities in the other's market. The renewed agreement reflects growing recognition among regional businesses of opportunities for expanded commercial engagement between the two countries.
