The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has taken steps to suspend the party membership of Samagi Jana Balawegaya Horana Electoral Organizer Charith Abeysinghe, who was arrested and remanded in custody in connection with a bribery incident.
The party has also decided to suspend all positions he has held so far with immediate effect.
Issuing a statement, Samagi Jana Balawegaya General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara has stated that he has not acted as a member or organizer of the party as of 2023. It also states that Charith Abeysinghe did not hold any position in the Samagi Jana Balawegaya at that time.
However, the General Secretary has further stated in the relevant statement that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya has never opposed the implementation of the law and taking judicial action against individuals involved in corruption or illegal activities.
