Charith Abeysinghe, a former Samagi Jana Balawegaya organiser, has been returned to prison custody after failing to satisfy bail requirements imposed by the Colombo Magistrate's Court in connection with bribery allegations.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court granted bail to three suspects on Monday in a case involving allegations of accepting a Rs. 120 million bribe from the wife of a major drug trafficker known as "Harak Kata". The court released attorney Rakhitha Rajapaksha, son of former Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, and former Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka Limited Executive Director Aruna Sri Warushahennadige after they fulfilled the bail conditions.

However, Charith Abeysinghe, identified as a former organiser for the Samagi Jana Balawegaya party in the Horana electorate, was unable to meet the requirements and was returned to prison custody by officials. According to Ada Derana, the Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama set bail at Rs. 100,000 cash and two personal bails of Rs. 1 million each. The court also required personal sureties to provide certificates demonstrating they possess sufficient income or assets to cover the bail amount.

Additional restrictions placed on all three suspects included travel bans and orders to surrender their passports to the court. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has been instructed to report on investigation progress during the next court hearing scheduled for December 8.
