A senior Buddhist religious leader has indicated he will seek the views of other chief prelates before presenting his position on the proposed 22nd Amendment to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The Chief Prelate of the Kotte Sri Kalyani Samaggri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabhawa, Most Venerable Dr. Ittapana Dhammalankara Thero, has outlined a consultative approach to the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution. During a recent meeting, the religious leader indicated he would seek the perspectives of the chief prelates representing the three main Buddhist chapters before forming his own position on the matter.

Representatives from the Dinana Dakuna Collective and Free Lawyers, including President's Counsel Maithree Gunaratne, former MP Saman Rathnapriya, and others, met with the Thero at the Rukmale Sri Dharma Wijayaloka Maha Viharaya to provide details about the proposed constitutional amendment. The delegation briefed the religious leader on the amendment's contents during the discussion.

Most Venerable Ittapana Dhammalankara Thero stated that after consulting with the other chief prelates, he intends to communicate his views directly to President Dissanayake. This approach reflects an effort to secure consensus among senior Buddhist religious figures before the Chief Prelate engages with the country's leadership on the constitutional matter.
