The China Communications Construction Company Limited has pledged to increase its investments in Sri Lanka across renewable energy, trade, logistics, and digital services, while committing to predominantly local workforce recruitment for its projects.
The China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC) has indicated plans to broaden its investment footprint in Sri Lanka following high-level discussions with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat. A senior delegation from the Chinese construction conglomerate, headed by Zhang Bingnan, met with the President to explore expansion opportunities centred around Colombo Port City and other strategic sectors.
During the talks, CCCC representatives identified three primary areas for potential growth: renewable energy development, trade and logistics infrastructure, and digital services. The delegation attributed their increased confidence in Sri Lanka's investment potential to the government's recently announced policy frameworks and development programmes. According to the President's Media Division, CCCC characterised Sri Lanka as having significant prospects to emerge as a regional hub across these sectors.
A notable commitment made during the meeting concerned employment generation. CCCC pledged that 90 percent of workers engaged across its Sri Lankan investment projects would be recruited from the local workforce, thereby contributing to job creation for Sri Lankan citizens. The discussions encompassed both projects currently under implementation and prospective ventures linked to Colombo Port City's ongoing development.
The meeting included participation from multiple Sri Lankan government officials, including the Minister of Labour, the President's Chief of Staff, and the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Chairman, alongside representatives from CCCC-affiliated entities including China Harbour Engineering Company Limited.
