COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Police say the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has recorded statements from more than 150 people, including inmates, as investigations into the Negombo Prison clash continue.Meanwhile, the Department of Prisons announced that court proceedings involving Negombo Prison inmates will be conducted online from today.Negombo Prison originally housed around 2,400 inmates. Following the recent clash, a large number of inmates were transferred to other prisons.The Department of Prisons said only about 600 inmates currently remain at the facility, and they too are expected to be transferred to other prisons in the coming days.The Department also stated that relatives are not currently being allowed to visit the remaining inmates.The recent clash between drug traffickers and organised crime figures inside Negombo Prison claimed the lives of eight prison officers and 21 inmates, while nearly 100 people were injured.
