CID Seeks Restricted Court Access Following Sri Lanka's Prison Violence

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today reported facts to court regarding the deadly clash at the Negombo Prison.The submissions were made by CID Director Shani Abeysekara before the Negombo Magistrate's Court during proceedings held in the Magistrate's chambers.At the request of the CID Director, judges and lawyers who were present at the court at that time were summoned to the Magistrate's chambers while the matter was being addressed before Negombo Magistrate Shilani Perera.During the proceedings, the CID informed the court that intelligence information had been received indicating a potentially concerning situation relating to court security.In view of the security concerns, the CID requested that only individuals directly connected to relevant court cases be permitted access to the court premises.After considering the request, the Magistrate instructed the relevant authorities to take the necessary measures.Meanwhile, the Magistrate also directed the Criminal Investigation Department to submit separate reports regarding each inmate who died in connection with the prison clash.
