The National Water Supply and Drainage Board has extended a water supply interruption affecting multiple Colombo suburbs until 11:30 p.m. on Friday to allow continued repair work on a transmission pipeline leak.

A scheduled water supply interruption across parts of Colombo and surrounding areas has been prolonged beyond its original 8 p.m. end time, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board announced Friday. The extension, now set to conclude at 11:30 p.m., was necessitated by ongoing repair work on a leak in the transmission pipeline, according to the Board.

The outage initially stemmed from essential maintenance activities at the Ambatale Water Treatment Plant. The affected areas span a wide geographical range, including Nugegoda, Kohuwala, Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia, Ratmalana, Moratuwa, and Rawathawatta, as well as central Colombo streets such as Havelock Road, Kalyani Road, and Hospital Roundabout Road, among others.

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the extended interruption and advised the public to conserve water supplies during the period of disruption.
