COLOMBO (News 1st) - The committee appointed to investigate the deadly clash at the Negombo Prison is scheduled to meet for the first time today.The meeting will be held at the Presidential Secretariat. The committee said it will discuss the unrest that occurred at the Negombo Prison on July 5 and 6, as well as the circumstances that led to the incident.The committee was appointed on July 7 by Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, with Cabinet approval, to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident at the Negombo Prison and submit a report on its findings.The committee is chaired by retired Supreme Court Justice Priyantha Fernando.Other members of the committee include retired Additional Solicitor General and President's Counsel Milinda Gunatilleke, and President's Counsel Mohan Weerakoon.Senior Assistant Secretary to the President K.L.D. Asela has been appointed as the Secretary and Convener of the committee.
