An organization called Dinana Dakuna has lodged a corruption complaint with Sri Lanka's bribery commission, alleging that National People's Power MPs deposited their parliamentary allowances into party accounts rather than using them for public benefit.
The Dinana Dakuna organization has filed a formal complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) against Members of Parliament elected from the National People's Power (NPP), alleging potential violations of anti-corruption legislation.
According to the complaint filed on the morning of December 2nd, the organization claims that NPP MPs deposited parliamentary allowances—funds designated as privileged payments—into the bank account of the JVP party instead of directing them toward public benefit purposes. The complaint argues this action constitutes an offense under the Anti-Corruption Act.
Dinana Dakuna has requested an expedited investigation under the Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023. The organization has submitted five specific requests to the bribery commission, including the summoning of all 159 NPP MPs to record formal statements, conducting a comprehensive investigation into the matter, and examining the party's bank accounts as part of the inquiry.
