Sri Lanka's Sports Ministry has received a formal concept paper for a proposed National High Performance Centre, designed to equip the country's athletes with world-class training facilities and bring domestic sports infrastructure to international standards.
Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamagedara received the official concept paper for the National High Performance Centre at the Ministry of Sports, signaling advancement in a long-term initiative to modernize Sri Lanka's sporting capabilities. The handover ceremony, led by Prasanna Jayalal, brought together representatives from the Sports Council, the Department of Sports Development, expert committee members, the Medical Institute, and Sri Lanka Cricket to formalize the project framework.
According to officials present at the event, the centre aims to provide Sri Lankan athletes with access to training facilities that meet international benchmarks. The project is intended to create what organizers described as "a new era in the field of sports" by strengthening the country's scientific and technical approach to athletic development.
The concept paper is expected to enable more structured implementation of the initiative moving forward. Officials indicated that the groundwork laid through this framework would elevate Sri Lanka's sports training infrastructure to a higher dimension, allowing athletes across various disciplines to benefit from modern, comprehensive facilities that have previously been unavailable domestically.
